our citrus habit

Every time we go to Costco these days, we come home with a 15 lbs bag of grapefruit.

I absolutely love grapefruit. But even better than grapefruit is fresh squeezed grapefruit juice.

I make up a big jar of fresh juice at least once a week.

We used to just drink it strait over ice. We still do that. It's incredible.

Even more incredible is to mix it with gin. It's pretty close to magical in its goodness. I think being able to have gin & grapefruit juice is top 3 on Amy's list of things that she's looking forward to about not being pregnant. Seriously it probably goes (1) holding/meeting the baby, (2) feeling better, (3) gin & juice, (4) the hospital food (5) who knows... See, it's right up there by my estimation.

For the time being, she mixes hers with club soda.

Seriously, you need to try this. Get yourself a citrus juicer and a big bag of grapefruit. Doesn't need to be a fancy one: this, this or this would probably be fine.

Nice...what's the ratio of gin to grapefruit juice?

I love that you provided juicer links. You're cool.

I know what we are getting soon! Looks great, Mike. After all, you are THE quintessential drink master. When in doubt, ask Mike!!

Amy's still not feeling good like she's supposed to in the second trimester, huh?

Ratio of gin to juice is about 1 to 3. Be sure to keep your mind on your money and your money on your mind.

Links are there because the first thing people would say is: That does look good but I don't have a juicer. To that I say: Are you a mexican or a mexican't?

Maybe I'll post my lemon/ginger concoction next. Gotta have a citrus juicer for that too.

I only like the hospital food because I have just gone through labor and delivery and someone else does all the work!
But you are right Mike, I can't fault your list!

Mike you are quite the salesman. And as for hospital food--you should talk with Ben as he was just raving yesterday about the omelet he got at the Island Hospital while I was laboring with Cadence.

You would love AZ, because I had like three grapefruit trees in my backyard, but couldn't stand the taste of them. I just recently had a grapefruit and I'm thinking that I like them--so I'll go get some gin.

Even though I've had these with you guys a lot before and loved them I had forgotten about them a little bit. But not tonight! Thanks to you! Justin's at work and I had myself a couple glasses full. You need to come up with a cool name for it though. You know - like Fletch and his Fuzz Buzz's.

I'm totally with Amy on the hospital food, I just love having someone take care of me!
Me and Travis will have to try that drink, it will be the perfect compromise, he likes grapefruit , I like alcohol.

Mexidon't is what we are at this point.

But that didn't stop Bob from creating a tall glass of shaved ice and pineapple juice for me last night. And I'm sure the pineapple was fresh at some point in it's life.

Post labor hospital food is my favorite and my best because I actually want to eat for the first time in a looong time. Looking forward to that meal...

I like hearing about your food adventures, Hollisters!

A. does something similar with limes, club soda, and tequila. Come to think of it, maybe it's not so similar. But still citrusy!

This right here is just proof that it's been way too long since we've hung out with you guys. I did not even know about this drink! (HOW COME?!?!) But now that I know.. I want one. YUM.

And EW about hospital food. I think there is NOTHING AS GROSS as hospital food. YUCK.

Reason #5 should be hospital ice. It's so crunchy and chew-able and yummy. I refuse to home birth just because I look forward to eating hospital ice for two days straight. Okay, well, not entirely, but close.
