5

The day began at 5:30. Amy woke up and called the hospital to see if there was room. They said to be there at 6. We left the house at about 6:15.

Don't worry though. We got to the hospital just in time to wait.

But at least the food was distractingly scrumptious. Amy had been looking forward to it.

About 12 hours after we got there, the epidural man was given the okay to help Amy out w/ what had finally become painful contractions. A normal epidural takes about 10 minutes. We've had 3 of those. I wouldn't say this guy is the biggest failure we've experienced but he comes pretty close. He burned through three of the "epidural kits" and finally got through on the third hole. And it still didn't work out all that well. Not as bad as with Nora Fine who did the epidural with Luke. She was so bad I remember her name to this day. Coincidentally, Nora did the epidural for this anesthesiologist's birth and messed it up for him too. That made for some pleasant camaraderie but didn't help Amy's pain much.

So to help Amy deal with these contractions, I reminded her that I had already done all the hard work about 9 months ago. She found that even less funny in her altered state.

Fortunately, delivering a baby does a lot to lift ones spirits.

We had the audacity to weigh him. 8 lbs. 12 oz. He was not impressed. That was about the only time we were able to get him to cry. He is a very content baby thus far.

But he really enjoyed his first bath.

I took a turn with my little guy.

While momma took a well-deserved rest.

The rest was also well-timed. There were a few folks who were a little bit excited about seeing their new little brother.

I am just so tickled to finally click over here and actually see a new blog post up: all about your cute Justus!!!

I love these pictures.

[Mark adds: "Just in case you didn't know."] He's been looking over my shoulder the past few minutes I've been on Facebook, apparently.

I adore that picture of Justus in his first bath. With his sweet little contented expression and his little feet poking up. It's probably my favorite one.

That poor anesthesiologist. He is going down in the books with Nora. If you have more children (and thus, another epidural, that anesthesiologist is going to HEAR it. :))

Congratulations.
Love you guys- all seven of you.

Of course, posts about the birth of a baby have to be among the best- and this one is.

So fun to read about and see pictures of your family welcoming little Justus!

He is darling, as are all your kids. I love the one of Ethan and Ava sitting together and cheering.

And all the ones of Justus.

And I'm so sorry about your epidural craziness. We've had some of that and wow, that's no fun.

I can't wait to see you all together as a family of SEVEN!

I've come back to look at these pictures several times now. This thought keeps impressing me:

The Lord is so good. Hasn't He blessed us?

Even in the most tiresome of moments, I look at these children - the ones in your pictures and the ones in my home - and I am continually amazed at the richness that raising them brings. What an honor, privelege and sheer delight.

We love every single one of you and are so thankful to call you friends.

First, congratulations and GREAT WORK, Amy! He is a beauty. Second, I can't shake the eebie-jeebies I now have just looking at that epideral "shot" (yes, pun intended) and reading your comments about the 3 failed attempts! I think the fear of the epidural was the biggest thing I worried about in my births! So glad that's over for you and you're now free to enjoy and delight in the newest little arrow in your quiver. :) I'm so happy for you all!
Hugs! Camee

I can't believe I didn't comment, but I know I did on Facebook. He is precious and in your post on just him (the most recent one) he looks so different from his siblings. He even looks like he has some Mexican blood or Indian blood in him (it reminds me of Veronica's baby pictures with skin tone and such).

I adore the picture of Luke & Ethan holding him, but even more is his first bath. Pure tranquility. And love the storyline as well.
